Needs more Pontoon on his Pontoon Boat

On one of our recent golf cart rides around the marina, one of the larger custom homes along the northern wall had a very nice, color-coordinated pontoon boat powered by twin 425hp Yamaha outboards.  The weight of the outboards had the boat a bit low in the stern.  The owner can trim out the ride once he gets going, but until then everything leans a bit to aft. I looked up the base retail price on each outboard and they start around $45k without all the toys for trimming and raising.  The combined 850hp dwarfs the 56hp Yanmar diesel in our sailboat, and I'm positive the pontoon boat can go a lot faster than 8 knots, but the First Mate and I prefer the slow lane :)

    That's a lot of money to stick onto the back of a pontoon boat!

 The owners of this harbor front home (3381 Diamond Key Ct,  Punta Gorda, FL 33955) had a contractor come in and give the mangroves a cut down to 3' (?) and some unknown trees a lollipop cut in order for the first floor of their home to have a view of the harbor. There is also a path to a small, sandy beach woven through the trees. The property to the left, strangely enough, is for sale with no obvious access other than to build a driveway across the trimmed mangroves.

Leaky Roof

When we first looked at our home in Florida, the realtor told us that the previous owner had a lot of work down on the roof, and the owner before that had the roof tiles "glazed" to keep their color.  When we migrated back from Tennessee, I noticed a small part of the ceiling in the garage had discolored and drip marks staining the interior walls.  I called the company that had done the previous work and he came out to take a look.  While he inspected the leak, he let me know what other work he had done, which was a kind of good news, bad news story.  The good news was he had re-done most every valley area on the roof at the request of the owner, the bad news was there were a few left he had not done, including the couple over the garage.  He sent out a crew a week or so later, and they were done in a few hours.  Nothing fancy, work a tile loose, and the rest can be easily taken out.  They scabbed the joist where the leak drizzled down in the attic, re...

Eulophia graminea, misunderstood petite orchid or a Faustian horticultural nightmare?

So, I finally found the genus of the two orchid plants that are growing out of the roots of the dragon plant ( Dracaena marginata) on the south side of the pool enclosure.  They are not native, which threw me a curve at first, but hail from across the southern portion of Asia.  Once I found the name, I searched and found a few headlines. "Invasive Chinese crown orchids taking over Florida landscapes" "Chinese Crown Orchid could be hiding amidst your vegetables and flowers... waiting to invade! Let’s learn whether this orchid is a weed!"  "The next exotic plant to menace the wilds of Florida might be an orchid, of all things." I guess some folks have not much to do...and one of those headlines was from a television news station.
