Going Places


 Our neighbors brought their RV to their home late yesterday from a storage garage they own nearby.  The husband, Jack, is in his mid-80s, a ball of fire, and was prepping the vehicle to go places.  He was out looking at his house batteries and I popped over to ask if he needed any help.  He was trying to get his batteries to charge (they eventually started taking a charge) and we chatted a bit.  His wife, Faun, was inside the RV and told me they had gotten an appointment for their COVID shots, but it was at a Publix in West Palm Beach, so they were going to make a multi-day trip out of it with the RV.  This is their third RV, and they prefer the smaller ones as opposed to some of the other neighbors, though they did have a larger RV themselves at one time.  Jack explained that the one they have now has everything their others had, but is much easier to drive and get around.

They have put over 100k on each of their RVs over the past 30 years, as they prefer to visit their family in Arizona, Washington state, and Indiana by RV, rather than fly. They have been to all the lower 48 states, but have slowed down some the last few years. It's hard to keep up with Jack now, I'd have to kick it up a notch if he was any younger :)

    It's on an E450 chasis, so it's built heavy. Most on the van chasis are taller (Class C?) with a bed over the driver, but this one has a bit of storage, no upper bed, and is longer.

Sweat Equity

The little gym at the fitness center is tight, but has nice equipment.  They also have a "yoga" room, but their primary focus is outside on the tennis and pickle balls courts, along with a large community pool for aqua aerobics.  Nowadays I get my forehead temperature check when entering with a mask on, but can remove the mask when working out.  We also have sanitizer to clean the equipment after use, which truly needs to be a thing after the pandemic. I'm solo for about half the time I work out, so I pedal to the center on my trusty cruiser, all 1 mile of it. There's ample parking for my cruiser, on the rare occasion there is maybe half a dozen bikes if there is a tennis or pickleball event going on.  Most folks arrive on golf carts, followed by cars or on foot. It's a short walk to the center from the parking lot. The courts take up most of the property off to the east (right). The Coconut Telegraph Weather Station

 I had been wanting to install a weather station at our home in Tennessee for a few years but placed one here in sunny Florida.  I also wanted a station that could be seen while away, and there were a few options.  I chose an Ambient Weather WS-2000, which has an outdoor station and a small internal color screen that acts as a server for the distribution of data to a few weather services (Ambient Weather and Weather Underground).   Ambient Weather The outdoor station sits in the shadow of the house for northern winds, so it won't get all the gusting and such from some cold weather fronts, but other than that, it's been doing well!

Avian Groupies

 A flock of White Ibis are working the shoreline along the edge of the 3rd hole (Heron course) behind our home, with a Common Gallinule staying a bit ahead and a Little Blue Heron in his usual spot, picking off anything the ibis are kicking up. The heron does work the shore by himself mostly, but if the ibis are out, he makes sure to shadow them.
